EV electricity tariffs Ireland
EV tariffs offer the cheapest overnight electricity rates available in Ireland — specifically designed for households charging an electric vehicle. With night rates as low as 10.85c/kWh, they can dramatically reduce the cost of owning an EV.
Who is a Ev tariff for?
EV tariffs are specifically designed for electric vehicle owners who charge their car at home overnight. The cheap night rate makes overnight EV charging approximately 3–4 times cheaper than charging during the day. They also suit households with heat pumps or other large overnight loads.
How does it work?
Like NightSaver, EV tariffs have a cheap night rate (11pm–8am) and a day rate. The night rate is typically even lower than NightSaver night rates. The calculation for your total cost is the same: day kWh × day rate + night kWh × night rate + standing charge × 365.
Advantages
- •Night rates as low as 10.85c/kWh — roughly 75% cheaper than day rates
- •Enormous savings on EV charging costs if charged overnight
- •Day rate on EV tariffs is also competitive vs standard
Disadvantages
- •Requires a smart meter or EV charger installation
- •Day rate is higher than standard tariffs, so non-EV usage costs more
- •Only makes financial sense if you charge your EV overnight regularly

You need either a smart meter or a dedicated home EV charger. Standard EV chargers (7kW home wallboxes) are eligible. Check with your supplier.
Which is the best EV tariff in Ireland?
Currently Electric Ireland is the main provider of a dedicated EV tariff, with a night rate of 10.85c/kWh. Energia's Smart tariff also offers 13.50c/kWh overnight which suits EV owners.
